Privacy Policy

Last updated: August 10, 2025

Applies to: stormtv.net and any pages branded “Storm” (the “Site”).

Storm (“we,” “us,” or “our”) provides weather information, live video, and video on demand content. This Privacy Policy explains what we (and third parties we rely on) process when you use the Site.

We keep this policy simple: we do not run ads, we do not create user accounts (except for site administrators), and we do not track you across sites or build profiles about you.

1. Information We Process

A. For local weather and features you use on the site

  • IP address (approximate location): When you load the Site, we use your IP address to look up general location (e.g., city/region) to show local weather.
  • Optional precise location (GPS or device location): If you opt in, your browser may share precise coordinates for more accurate weather.

Storage: We do not store your IP address or GPS coordinates for these features. They are used only to fulfill your request and then discarded.

Third-party processing: To return weather and related data, the following services may process location data or related requests:

  • National Weather Service (NWS)
  • Nominatim (OpenStreetMap geocoding)
  • U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)
  • Storm API (our own API and/or service providers we use)

Each third party has its own privacy practices.

B. Embedded content and external services

Our pages include:

  • YouTube video players and live chat. YouTube (Google) may set cookies or collect data when players or chat load, especially if you are signed in to a Google account.
  • Links to external sites: Discord, Twitter/X, Google Forms, YouTube, and other third-party sites you choose to visit.

Your use of these services is governed by their respective privacy policies and terms. We do not control their data collection.

C. Cookies we set

We use first-party cookies to operate the Site and remember your preferences. Examples include:

  • Essential cookies (e.g., load balancing, session continuity, security/anti-abuse).
  • Preference cookies (e.g., units or display settings you choose).

We do not use cookies for cross-site tracking, targeted advertising, or building user profiles.

D. Cookies set by others

Third-party services embedded on the Site—particularly YouTube—may set their own cookies. We do not control these cookies. You can manage cookies through your browser settings and, where applicable, your account settings with those providers.

E. Server security and reliability

Our hosting environment may generate temporary, minimal server logs (e.g., error diagnostics) to keep the Site secure and running. We do not use these logs to identify you or build profiles.

2. How We Use Information

  • Provide your local and precise (if opted-in) weather information.
  • Operate the Site, streams, and features you use on the site.
  • Maintain security and troubleshoot issues.

We do not sell or share personal information for advertising.

3. Data Retention

  • Location data (IP/GPS) for weather: Not stored by us beyond the active request/session.
  • Cookies: Persist according to their purpose and typical lifespans (e.g., session or up to 12 months for preferences).
  • Server logs: Kept only as necessary for security and operations, then removed.
  • Third-party services: May retain data per their policies (see Section 1B).

Because we do not maintain user accounts or store your location data, there is typically nothing for us to delete. For data held by third parties, please contact them directly.

4. Your Choices

  • GPS/precise location: Your browser will ask before sharing; you can deny or revoke permission at any time.
  • Cookies: You can control or delete cookies in your browser settings. Blocking some cookies may affect site functionality.
  • External links: When you follow a link to a third-party site (Discord, Twitter/X, Google Forms, YouTube), their policies apply.

5. Children’s Privacy

The Site is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information to us, please contact us and we will take appropriate steps.

6. International Users

Our services are operated in the United States. By using the Site, you understand that your information may be processed in the U.S. by us and the third parties listed above.

If you are in the EEA/UK: we process limited data (e.g., IP, optional GPS) only as necessary to provide the service you request (legitimate interests/performance of a service you request). Because we do not retain this data and use only essential/preference cookies, certain data-subject rights (access, deletion) may not apply to data we do not hold.

7. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the updated date at the top. Your continued use of the Site after changes means you accept the updated policy.
